Tom Tarby and his wife, Joan, have owned the Colonial Tavern since the summer of 1985. They both grew up in Seymour, CT and have lived in Oxford for seventeen years. Tom attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. After graduation, he worked at the Omni Parker House in Boston, the Curtis House in Woodbury, CT, and the Copper Beach Inn in Ivoryton, CT. Before buying the Colonial Tavern, Tom and Joan owned a catering company, called a Touch of Class. The Colonial Tavern continues to be a family-operated establishment.

Many people associate the word "inexpensive" with the word "cheap." At the Colonial Tavern, that is certainly not the case. We strive to provide our customers with the best service, a comfortable yet elegant atmosphere, and a delectable meal at a reasonable price. We will work with you to meet your every need at a cost that is affordable to you. You are always welcome to make changes to the menu, as you see fit. We offer a variety of choices, as far as the meal, the bar, the linen, and the decor.
The staff is dedicated to the quality of each event, not quantity of events each day. Our hope is that your experience is memorable and you will never feel rushed or unwelcome. If you so choose, our chef/owner is available to meet with you personally prior to your event, by appointment only. You can also call us if you have any questions.

I've only had buffet meals here but it's always good. I've been here while they hosted two parties at once. And depending on the crowd we always seem to mesh the two and have more fun than ever on the dance floor. Very friendly atmosphere and wonderful experienced staff, I would recommend any party here.

I have been to a wedding, a christening, and a baby shower at the Colonial Tavern. Each event had excellent food and waitstaff. Would definitely recommend having an affair there.

My family has been a member of the pool club for several years. We are very satisfied. It is a perfect spot for children to enjoy their summer. They have a food shack on the premises which is perfect for lunch or dinner and is reasonably priced. You are also allowed to bring your own food. There is a large lawn area for other sports. We have also had many of our special occassions celebrated in their banquet facility. The food is excellent!!! There is plenty of parking for the facility also. It is one of the best kept secrets in Oxford!

The Colonial Tavern was abosolutely wonderful. I had my reception semi casual outside on the patio and I could not have asked for anything more perfect. The owner and waitstaff were extremley helpful and totally went above and beyond, they are such nice people. There is nothing I would have changed about it I would do everthing there again the same if I had to do it again.I got so many complments on how delious the food was and how smooth everything went. It was just wonderful!!!!!

Had our wedding at Colonial Tavern. They did a great job. The food was excellent and the service made us feel right at home. A very comfortable and relaxed place for an event.
